TechHub's Web Summit competition winners!

As you know, TechHub loves startups. So much so, that when we attended the London Web Summit on 1st March, we wanted to welcome another one to the fold, with one years free Flex Membership. The competition went like this: companies filled in the blanks ("TechHub is incomplete without me because _________"), and tweeted the answer to @TechHub.

We had some great entries, ranging from the fun ("Because we know LOTS of drinking games") to the slightly bizzarre ("Because I am a powerhouse!"). We managed to narrow it down to two companies that both gave great reasons, and we thought were doing some really cool things. As we couldn't choose between the two, we decided to offer them both membership!

First up, Popdeem from Dublin, Ireland. Fresh out of WAYRA Ireland, Popdeem reward your social recommendations to friends. They calculate your social influence, reward based on the number of times you recommend places, and increase your rewards if your friends check-in!

Next, Tourus, a great platform that solves a real problem for musicians. When touring, often end up playing to "3 locals and a barman", or having their set ruined by a shoddy PA system. Tourus allows users to recommend and review venues, so that artists can get the low down before gigs, without having to pay a booking agent. Tourus promised to bring the awesome bands that use them, to come play for us at TechHub, an offer too good to turn down! They also briefly promised a mechanical rodeo bull, but we may have to pass on health and safety grounds...

While we're very pleased to welcome Popdeem and Tourus as new TechHub members, our competition had a few other winners! Those to get 10 or more retweets and 'favourites' (combined) won their ad on a cab, courtesy of Eyetease. Congratulations to WhereToGetIt, BraveNewTalent and urYearBook who all will soon have their adverts roaming around London!

We really enjoyed the London Web Summit, and also managed to find the time to listen to some great talks and meet some fascinating people.
