Nexmo get $18m funding (at $100m valuation)

Big congratulations to our longstanding members Nexmo, who very recently raised $18 million in a funding round that values the company at more than $100 million.

Offering highly scalable, reliable SMS & Voice APIs used by the top messaging & consumer apps in the world, Nexmo is a a cloud-based low-cost messaging API communication service, that solves the problems faced by companies and app developers delivering application-to-person SMS.

The recent financing was led by private equity fund Sorenson Capital and existing investors including Intel Capital.

Weve been growing very rapidly with a very small team, says Tony Jamous, Nexmo's CEO.

Nexmo, which also enables voice communications, has about 40 employees (with over 20 of those based at TechHub London) and should expand to nearly 100 by the end of the year. Sales are expected to at least double (after more than quadrupling last year), as the ecosystem around messaging startups booms and mobile-phone customers worldwide increasingly use third-party applications to send text, pictures and videos to friends. Nexmos customers include popular software providers that let people message on mobile devices, such as KakaoTalk and Line, as well as e-commerce companies such as Airbnb.
