HiredByMe creates first ever legally protected platform for contractor references in UK

TechHub member, HiredByMe, is today launching a new platform to make the contractor hiring process more efficient by providing full, honest assessments. The site represents a major shift from traditional UK referencing by collating meaningful feedback data rather than solely providing employment dates. The brainchild of ex-financial services managers Simon Bichara, Dave Mason and Nick Buller, HiredByMe is set to create a smarter recruitment process.

Contractors, freelancers and interims can sign up to HiredByMe free of charge and invite previous clients to submit detailed skills and performance assessments directly to the site. These are protected within a newly created legal environment where, uniquely, contractors own and publish their own references, providing employers with honest feedback without the traditional legal worries. The launch comes at a time when contractor vacancy growth has reached a 16-year high (August 2014) with 1.56m skilled self-employed professionals in the UK market.

HiredByMe reflects a wider trend of new start-up talent entering the market following the financial services slowdown. The founding team have used skills gained in financial services technology to address a pain point that their experience shows is critical for organisations.

The innovative new service offers a win-win for employers and candidates alike. From today, employers can access a pool of candidate assessments enabling them to recruit the right person first time thereby saving time and money. For candidates, this means closing the gap between contracts. The service has been rolled out to support sectors that employ a high proportion of contractors including financial services and technology.

"HiredByMe is borne out of our experiences of hiring contractors, Simon Bichara, co-founder at the start-up explains. We wanted to create a solution to a problem were genuinely passionate about. Getting the right person is so important, and mis-hiring can cost up to 10k after just a couple of weeks. Through HiredByMes transparent community, we can help employers make the right choice first time round."

"Weve been hugely encouraged by the support weve received for HiredByMe from leading market influencers like IPSE and are excited to be shaping a new way for the sector to interact and operate."
